- Where are you from? What do you do for work? Family?
Savannah, Ga is where I grew up and will always be home to me but I have been in Atlanta since 2000 and love it! I work for Medline industries attempting to sell medical supplies by day and coaching little league by night. My wife Jenny stays at home and takes care of my two children. Trace is 10 and plans on playing in the NFL. Kate is 7 and will be my Olympic gymnast. Guess I need to get them into CrossFit pretty soon!
- When did you start CFP?
In December 2012 my wife bought a groupon for CrossFit Silos. She couldn’t make the class schedule work for her and asked if I wanted to use it. I said no because I liked my routine but not wanting to have wasted the money I decided I would give it a try for a month. Travis had me at hello.
- What’s your biggest fitness/health accomplishment since starting CFP?
I’ve worked out and played sports my whole life and always felt somewhat “in shape” but CFP has taken that to another level. As I am passing my prime I feel like I am staying as healthy as ever. I don’t have any specific accomplishments to speak of but feeling that I live a healthy lifestyle and competing every day makes me feel proud.
- What are your future fitness goals?
If can learn to dunk a basketball before I turn 50 I will be ecstatic! If that doesn’t happen I want to be as fit as possible my whole life. I don’t have specific goals but like Dylan Thomas said, I do not want to “go gentle into that good night!” Work hard, play hard! Just do it! Dance like…I’m kidding, I just like using clichés!!!
- What do you do for fun?
Anything involving athletics of course! I love playing with and coaching my kids. We love watersports, field sports, mountain biking and just goofing off around the house. I’m also an amateur boxer with a big fight coming up at the Georgia Aquarium Ballroom, October 23. It’s my retirement fight. This is your save the date notification as you are all invited and I hope you can come! Outside of sports I like to play chess, am a movie buff, foodie and love going out with friends.
- Favorite lift/workout?
If I said thrusters would you all kill me? I actually love every bit of it. From the stuff I’m good at to the stuff I need to work on, I love the challenge of it all! The daily competition with my friends and the internal mental competition with myself drives me and keeps me coming back.
- Least favorite lift/workout?
Snatch, I HATE the snatch!!!
- What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start at United Performance?
Jump in with both feet. It is hard for anyone looking to start something different. At first and you might be somewhat behind the regulars but like anything else if you invest in it you will thrive and the members and coaches are always encouraging and will help you on your way. The friendships and bonds formed at CFP can’t be matched at any other gym. It’s amazing to consistently see the physical transformations in people who are willing to put in the time and energy to become healthy. CFP helps to make that happen fast!
